Directions and Transportation
Drive to the Archives
Click the arrow on the map above for directions. NMAI's off-site collection center is on the same campus, known as the Cultural Resources Center (CRC) you can find more information and contacts by clicking here.
Take the Metro Green Line to the Suitland Station. When you leave the station, turn right (west) on Silver Hill Road. Then cross Suitland Parkway, walk a few hundred yards, and you'll see the Museum Support Center and the Cultural Resource Center on the righthand side of the street. Ask the security guard at the gate to direct you to MSC. The walk from the Metro to MSC takes 10-15 minutes. You'll need to show a photo ID to enter the facility.
Ride the Smithsonian Shuttle
The Smithsonian operates a free shuttle bus from the National Museum of Natural History to the Museum Support Center, which is approximately six miles southeast of Washington, D.C. The shuttle bus departs from the museum's entrance on Madison Drive (i.e., the Mall entrance) on the hour and arrives at the Museum Support Center 27 minutes later. Please note the changes on MSC arrival starting with the 3:00 pm shuttle.
You will need a pass to ride the shuttle bus. When you make an appointment to visit the archives, you'll receive a confirmation message with instructions for obtaining a shuttle pass. You will also need a photo ID to enter the Museum Support Center. Please let us know if you would like to schedule a wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus.
