The Rest of Our Field Team
Careful recovery of fossils and stone tools at Olorgesailie is the responsibility of a superb team of Kenyan excavators. Most of the year, the excavation team members live and work on their shambas (farms) in Machakos District, located east of the capital Nairobi. And one person on the crew, Kakai ole Mino, lives locally in the Olorgesailie area.
The excavation team includes:
| Vincent Kimeu | Musyoka Kanunga | George Mumo |
| Daniel Nzube | Francis Musila | Kakai ole Mino |
| David Kitivi | Musyoka Kilonzi | Dominic Kateto |
| John Kioko | Kamula Kawaya | Nzioki Mativo |
| Muthengi Kioko | Muendo Kasivo | Kiluva Nume |
| Sina Muteti | Samuel Wambua | Munyae Kinyamasio |
| Mang'ea Moki |
Additionally, life in the field is all made possible by having a camp that is well organized, clean, and peaceful. Or as we would say in Kiswahili, "safi" -- as in the name of our camp:Kampi Safi. These responsibilities are in the capable hands of:
King'ola Ndambuki,
camp cook
Mutuku Mbingi, cook's assistant
Good food is what keeps us all going in the field, and these two experts are responsible for that, too.
Finally, with deepest appreciation, we remember the contributions of four individuals who enriched the life of our camp when they were part of our field family:
Nzibo Katende
Mukilya Mang'oka
Raphael Kioko
Rajabu Athumani
