Peter Ditchfield is a Post Doctoral Research Associate at the Department of Geology, University of Bristol. He received his B.Sc. honours in Geology, University of Keele (1986) and his Ph.D. from the University of Liverpool (1990). In 1995, he became involved with geological studies in the Olorgesailie Basin, as part of the team led by Dr. Rick Potts. Pete studies the sedimentary and volcanic deposits of the Olorgesailie, Kenya. His descriptions and mapping of the deposits provide a framework for the paleoenviromental reconstructions. Pete's career has focused on such diverse research projects as: Cretaceous-Paleogene
paleoceanography of Tanzania; development of models to investigate the effects
of sea level change; sedimentological and geochemical investigation of Miocene
terrestrial environments of western Abu Dhabi; analysis of rhythmically bedded
chalk/marl sequences to produce records of changing environments; investigating
late Miocene and early Pliocene sediments of the Mediterranean to detect paleoevironmental
change involved in the repeated transition from open marine to more restricted
evaporitic environments; and research on the evolution of southern high latitude
paleoenvironments. When he is not working he enjoys cycling (off road) & sailing (mostly Catamarans off the beach). Other interests include brewing and consuming beer, trying to find a chili dog, amateur plumbing and having fun.
