Dr.
Rick Potts examining a fossil.
We found a small piece of bone, no longer than two inches on the surface eroding out of the hillside on our geology hike. With a little looking about, we found another piece of bone that connected with the first. Fossil hunting is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, fitting the broken pieces of bone back together again. Even with such a small piece, there was enough of it that we were convinced we would be able to identify the animal it came from.
But
we did not have time on this initial survey to sift for more pieces and find
the source of these eroded pieces. So we erected a small cairn of rocks to mark
the position of the find to which we will return.
Close window to return to dispatch.
