A
view of the Kampi Safi tent city. Kampi Safi is Kiswahili for a camp that is
a great place to be.
The central point of the camp is Nzibo's Tree, named after Nzibo Katende, who served in the position of camp cook for ten years, and sadly passed away two years ago. King'ola was the assistant cook to Nzibo, and took over the responsibilities. Around the tree is where food is prepared, the mound of ashes near the tree serves as a makeshift oven. Containers with bread dough are buried in ashes and coals to bake during the day.
Close window to return to dispatch.
