We disseminate information acquired in archaeobiological collections-based research to both scholarly and general audiences through our active publication program, through scholarly and public lectures, and through seeking exhibition outlets for our research. We sponsor an active training and fellowship program for students and researchers at many levels (high school through post-doctorate). You can find more information on Smithsonian Institution internship and fellowship opportunities on the Research Training Program and Office of Fellowships websites.
The Archaeobiology Program hosts courses in archaeozoology and archaeobotany offered through George Washington University. These courses combine lecture and laboratory experiences that provide students with both a comprehensive overview of these disciplines and valuable hands on experience.
Our outreach efforts also include active participation in the International Council for Archaeozooology (ICAZ), a major professional organization for archaeozoological research dedicated to enhancing communication within the international scholarly community and promoting awareness within the general public of the importance of the archaeological study of human/animal relationships.
