Frequently Asked Questions

The subject of paleoanthropology is huge. And because our research draws on the work of so many disciplines, we, as students of the field, are forced to be part anthropologist, part geologist, part biologist, part chemist ... and the list goes on.

As such, new students often feel a bit intimidated by the scope of the discipline. But this shouldn't be a reason not to study paleoanthopology. Rather it should be a challenge to dig deeper into the field, and what is needed is only a little guidance for the beginner, to get started.

We have compiled a list of questions that students have submitted. This list contains many of the questions asked frequently by people writing to our researchers. We also provide a link to our Summary Human Origins , which might be helpful in answering your questions. If your question is not included in the list or the Explore Human Origins page we would encourage you to submit a question to our research team by visiting our Ask a Researcher page.
